Project Overview
Jean-Pierre Tual, Project coordinator, GEMALTO
SUS is a Europe-wide effort undertaken in the EUREKA ITEA2 framework aimed at to introducing interoperable e-city services based on the latest mobile technologies and ubiquitous mobile computing techniques. Besides developing the needed architecture and technology components, the project will prototype and validate these services and interoperability characteristics will in a core group of European cities from France, Finland and Spain that are actively contributing to the project developments.
SUS aims especially at supporting European cities that are facing new challenges to develop their territorial attractiveness in a context of continuous globalization and ever fiercer competition. From this perspective, key operational objectives are to attract investment, qualified workforces, tourists and consumers with high buying power into their towns, as well as improving the quality of life for citizens while optimizing local productivity.
In this introductory talk the general project concept, objective and organization will be presented, as well as key concepts supporting the technical developments, especially those related to the underlying service oriented platform and the city-led approach for developing service interoperability through effective pilots in some major business areas (transportation, tourism, day-care).
