In this role, he supports Gemalto’s marketing and product groups in the field of multiple application infrastructure. Mr. Bernabeu previously managed the issuance software ‘road map’ for Gemalto, which made him responsible for overseeing the internal and external issuance services strategy. Mr. Bernabeu also acts as GlobalPlatform’s central technical liaison point, coordinating the efforts of the organization’s three technical committees – Card, Device and Systems – and the GlobalPlatform Task Forces. Dr. Constantine Polychronopoulos’ research in multithreading computer architectures and wireless network performance optimization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) formed the core of Bytemobile technology. He founded the company in 2000 to pursue a vision of the Mobile Internet and recruited a few of his graduate students, including Chris Koopmans and Nicholas Stavrakos, today vice president, Product Development, and vice president and chief architect, respectively, at Bytemobile. As a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UIUC since 1986 and director of the Center for Supercomputing Research and Development since 1995, Dr. Polychronopoulos led research efforts that have had a profound impact on both academic and commercial computing. His innovations included the Computational Network Federations, the first dynamic virtualization architecture; the Nanothreads prototype, used by Silicon Graphics and other companies; and the Parafrase-2 and Promis multilingual parallelizing compilers, which spawned nearly two decades of research and influenced compilers and run-time systems at Intel, IBM and Compaq. Dr. Polychronopoulos has chaired and served on the committees of more than 50 international conferences, served on the editorial boards of IEEE and ACM journals, and delivered more than 70 presentations by invitation at universities, conferences and industry events. He holds 10 U.S. and international patents and has published a book and over 150 papers in research journals and conference proceedings. Among other honors, he received the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1989, the 1998 Bodossaki Foundation Award in Engineering and a Fulbright Scholarship. In 1999, he was recognized as Pascal Professor by Leiden University. Dr. Polychronopoulos holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, an M.S. from Vanderbilt University and a B.S. from the National University of Athens.

Bruno integrated the ID Department of Gemalto as senior expert in 2005. After ID standards management, he manages governmental affairs for all ID topics (ePassport, eID, eHealth, eResident, eDL, eRegistration, eVisa…) at Gemalto. He has been owned several patents connected with electronic identities and biometry through Gemalto. In charge of all relationships with the European institutions, Bruno follows the key European programs (larges scale pilots, Digital Agenda, specific expert working groups as e-Mobidig or , funding programs) and he is also involved the current Chairman of the Eurosmart’ ID group.

John Walker has worked in the field of smart-card security analysis for more than 12 years. He is a principal consultant with SiVenture, a division of NDS and a leading CLEF in the field. His main responsibility is to carry out chip physical analysis on their behalf. His background is as a semiconductor physicist with many years of FIB and SEM analysis experience. He has held a visiting professorship from Imperial College, London since 2003.

Peter Went is the Chief Executive Officer of WCC, where his role is to oversee the company’s operations in The Netherlands and the United States.
Mr. Went founded WCC in 1996 after a frustrating search for a new house exposed the fact that existing database technologies were ill-equipped for performing certain types of searches. This revelation led him to develop a search tool that worked more like the human mind, and set the foundation for WCC’s ELISE fuzzy database technology.
Prior to WCC, Peter Went held a number of leadership positions with different high tech companies. He served as CTO of Quality System Development, which developed and marketed an integrated banking system for European banks. He also was Founder & CEO of UniSoft, where he orchestrated the company’s expansion into Prague.
Mr. Went’s experience also includes various roles in both software development and business consulting. He has served as lead developer with Shell International, principal consultant at James Martin Associates and principal consultant with Platinum Technology.
Being an internationally recognized expert in relational database systems, Mr. Went has spoken at a number of occasions, including IBM Guide event, Security Symposium, HR-XML, the British Chamber of Commerce and was recently asked to be a judge for the SIIA Codie Awards.
